PRIME Profile - David Butler

MB, BS, FRCP, DRCOG, Dip Pall Med.

David started his career a GP in Buckinghamshire with a particular interest in palliative care. He has worked extensively in Hospices and acted as GP facilitator in palliative care on a pilot project with the RCGP and Cancer Relief Macmillan. 

He resigned from general practice to pursue full-time work in palliative care and was appointed consultant in palliative medicine at Stoke Mandeville Hospital, Aylesbury and more recently Southampton University Hospitals NHS Trust. His roles have included teaching to undergraduates and postgraduates in a number of disciplines.

David has been involved with PRIME since 2007 joining and leading palliative care teaching teams in many countries.

David served PRIME as Chair of the PRIME Management Team and PRIME Trustee for many years. He was Chair of Trustees from 2020 until 2024, and remains a regular member of the Board of Trustees.
